The Early Years - The Cair Vie Manx Pipe Band

Additional Information

Alan Wylie was an experienced piper and had the idea of starting a pipe on the Island.  The first meeting was down in Ramsey and then a church in Douglas - the year was 1984!  The band was set up to try and play as much Manx music as possible and hence the name Cair Vie meaning a fir wind in Manx!  In the early years there were several Bombard players and the target was to play at the Lorient Festival in Brittany!
